The Road to Paradise by Karen Barnett

I really enjoyed this book. I have been a bit disenchanted with reading the last few months but this book sparked my interest and I loved it so much. The author went into perfect descriptions of the setting and characters and I felt like I was there. Reading about the cold in the mountains made me think I needed a jacked in the hot summer weather. I got so caught up in her descriptions of the people. There were some who made me grit my teeth and some that made me laugh. You will enjoy reading this one and being reminded of seeing God in the nature around you every day.

The Kindness Challenge

I selected this book thinking I was just going to enjoy a nice book and get some encouraging words, but this was such a surprise! I really had to take a look at my attitude that I had toward people and things in my life and find the gratefulness and kindness I have within. I have the best husband and he has benefitted from this challenge also.

This book is for everyone. It challenges even the most kind person to look in on themselves and reflect on their thoughts and behaviors. It is easy to understand and apply to life. I highly recommend having a highlighter or pen (if you are the type to write in books) because you will want to remember some of these great insights.

The Acrylic Painter by James Van Patten

Honestly, this is not a good introduction to acrylic painting. Yes, I liked the cover, but after only a few pages in, I realized that this book was not going to be a light, fun learn about acrylic painting. I expected this book to be more about cute techniques and creating fun images, but it turned out to much more dreary than that. If you are looking for a book about acrylic painting that focuses more on how to create realistic paintings instead of abstract, this might be the book you want. I couldn't get past all the technical jargon to find the real content of the book. Not a good starting book for beginner painters.

I received this book free for review from Blogging for Books.

Hope Unfolding by Becky Thompson

First of all, can I say this cover is gorgeous? I love all the floral watercolor. There are also bits of it throughout the book. Now on to the review.... one thing in this book did well was being relatable to the everyday mother. While there are truths that apply to everyone, this is written to mothers, for mothers. It helped me feel like I was not the first mom to go through utter chaos and feel like a failure who has nothing left. That part was reassuring.
The part I felt needed improvement was that I was waiting through the entire book for some revolutionary thought to come through and change the way I viewed the world. I never got there. I did find some basic truths the at were very good to hear, but I had already heard them. I didn't feel quite as inspired as I thought I would.
Even though this book was not as mind-blowing as I believed it would be, I still recommend it as a good read for all moms.

The Time Garden

This coloring book is simply gorgeous. Some of the drawings are very detailed and will take quite a bit of time to color. I have only started on the first page and I am coloring in all those tiny leaves. There are so many to color them all individually. I could work on one page for a few weeks.

I really like this book. Some of the pictures are a little odd to me and the storyline was very abstract but overall a nice book.

The only problems I have with the book are the fac  that it doesn't lie flat and the pictures are printed all the way to the middle of the boom so it is very hard to color that part.

My favorite part is the shiny gold on the front. Makes it look super fancy!

Positive Discipline: The First Three Years

At first I thought this book was going to be super pychological and much more philosophical than it was. I definitely didn't expect it to make SO much sense! It seemed like every paragraph had something new that made me stop and think. Sometimes I ended up reading the whole chapter aloud to my husband.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the section they started talking about the terrible toddler years. It helps change your thinking about how kids think and reminds you that they do not have the high functioning brain of an adult yet. And the whole concept that they do not understand the word no... mind-blowing! It will definitely change how I think about the behavior of toddlers in general. And that is perfect because I am expecting twins in a few months. I was so surprised how much I learned even though I thought I knew how to handle children already. Boy, was I wrong! There is still so much to learn.

Get Lost by Dannah Gresh

At first, I got this book because I thought it would totally be one of those cheesy books that give you how tos about the dating world. I was fully expecting to not enjoy the book, but I have got to say I ended up liking it a lot. There is some very practical advice on your approach to finding love. No one has ever put things into perspective for me like this! The author, Dannah Gresh, does an amazing job of addressing the issue of replacing God in your life with that 'ideal' relationship, and I think this is a topic so many girls today are facing - yet no body is willing to take the time to discuss! For me, the book wasn't only speaking about boys, it was referring to anything in my life that consumes my thoughts, or that I've tried to use to fill that 'missing piece' or 'hole' inside me! It could be anything...careers, dreams, goals, accomplishments - doesn't matter! It is only a temporary "fix", replacement, or distraction to the real solution - and that is a relationship with our Heavenly Father! Thank you Dannah for putting into words that spoke so directly to me! I recommend this for all woman and girls! Regardless of if you're married, single, or somewhere in-between! I guarantee it'll change the way you view yourself, as well as your relationships, and pursuit of love!
